Foreign Companies Want UK Stock

Due to the new gambling deregulations within the UK, many companies are now seeking out existing casino companies to purchase, giving them a shot at the new gambling opportunities within Britain. Genting is just the latest company to take over one of Britain’s best. Stanley Leisure has agreed to a takeover by Genting, a Malaysian company.

"The Stanley board believes that, while Stanley is well placed to take advantage of deregulation, the offer by Genting International UK provides immediate crystallization of the future value inherent in the group," said Chief Executive Bob Wiper of the Stanley group.

The country’s first super casino will have unlimited slot machine potential, and many are vying for the opportunity to be a part of it. The Casino Advisory Panel has narrowed the original list of those vying for the right – down to eight locations. Stanley has been working on placing itself squarely in the middle of Britain as their biggest casino operator. The company already owns 45 casinos in the UK, as well as having other interests in several other countries. They were originally a bookmaking operation, and Lord Steinberg controlled it. He sold roughly half to Genting two years ago, and that alliance led to the Kuala Lumpur casino resort that is so popular.

It is widely believed that this is not the last company to purchase a UK casino operation, and MGM has already been looking for something they can get involved in as well.
