History of GamblingLottery gambling can be traced back to the very beginning of the United States. In the early 1600’s, settlers used lottery profits to pay for building the colony at Jamestown. It has also led to the building of many of our major landmark structures such as famous Ivy League colleges, courthouses, churches, etc. Because the lottery was seemingly everywhere, private lotteries were widespread by the early 19th century. However, all good things must come to an end. Because of the amount of corruption that ended up coming out of the lottery business, the government passed a ban that lasted from 1878 to 1964, where no state could have any sort of gambling at all. In 1964, New Hampshire held the first “sweepstakes” and enabled lawmakers to evade federal anti-lottery laws. States fell in one by one, and gambling began to expand across the United States once again. Today, all but two states in the US allow gambling, and that is Utah and Hawaii. Out of all fifty states, thirty-eight allow lotteries, and some are involved in the progressive kind as well. Indian Reservation gambling is permitted in many states, with each state deciding how much enough for them is. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
