Greektown Goes PaperThe clink-clink-clink of the slot machines is over at Greektown Casino. It has actually been over for awhile, but it is officially over this week. At midnight on Thursday the metal tokens will become worthless – unless you are planning on starting a collection of slot machine tokens. Some are actually planning on doing just that. About a year ago, the casino decided that they were going to switch to coinless slot machines, and their customers have been redeeming the slot machine tokens ever since. The casino thinks that by going to paper instead of coins it will be easier for the casino and for their customers. "It's just more convenient to our customers than anything else," Scott A. Rutledge said on behalf of the Greektown Casino. “We've eliminated our customers carrying tokens around the casino in buckets. And the players no longer will have dirty hands from handling the tokens." The gamblers will be able to put money into the slot machines and play them as normal, only it will be only paper instead of coins or tokens. Then when they win, they will get a slip of paper from the slot machine, which they can then cash in for their winnings. Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
