Guam Greyhound Needs Employees

John Baldwin is letting everyone know one more benefit of voting in the option of legalizing slot machines at his Guam Greyhound Track. Yesterday the owner of the track held a press conference to talk about the benefits of legalizing slot machines. They have gotten a lot of bad press lately, and Baldwin thought it would be best to show the voters a more positive side of what he was trying to do.

He talked about the number of slot machines that he would be bringing in, and said he would be starting with 200 slot machines. He also talked about the fact that with all of those slot machines coming in, there would be a need for jobs. He stated that for every slot machine that comes in, it makes more than two jobs. He explained that this would leave him in need of more than 500 jobs to be filled by locals. He also mentioned that there would be other areas besides the slot machines that would need help as well, such as the restaurants, etc. These are all jobs that need to be filled.

He also talked about the amount of revenue that they would be bringing into the area – estimates have it around $20 million just for the slots revenue. Based on these figures, roughly $2 million alone would go to education and health care. They are not interested in any sort of table gambling, only slot machines. He pointed out that some of his detractors say that the last time slot machines were allowed, people were leaving their children out in the car while they played inside. He assured the people that there would be none of that on his watch – that they will have security cameras watching the parking lot to be sure that it doesn’t happen, and they will be offering child care inside the facility.
