IGT Goes WirelessInternational Game Technology won approval on Thursday to put wireless slot systems played on computer tablets in casinos. The Nevada Gaming Commission approved IGT’s application, and the company is glad to have the go ahead. The company is still working on the system, and once it is completed they will need to have some trials in casinos to see that they are working properly. The devices are similar to mobile computer tablets, and are roughly 10 x 12 inches – and about 1 ½ inches thick. This way officials within the casinos will know which is the real deal and what is just someone’s palm pilot – therefore kids won’t be able to play without being seen. Wireless devices have been approved, but only in areas with direct supervision. If you are operating a wireless and try to leave an approved area, the slot machine will first warn you, and then it will shut down if you actually leave. It will suspend play, and when you are back in an approved area, will continue where it left off. If someone steals your machine while you are betting on it, you can report it and the machine will be disabled immediately. No machines will be paid out without proper identification as well, so no one will be able to steal the money you have accumulated on your individual slot machine as well. IGT has set up fairly every scenario that will make gamblers feel safe as they use the new technology.
