Illegal Slots in Missouri Pose ProblemThe Missouri Gaming Commission is concerned with the number of illegal slot machines within their state. However, they are also aware that they do not have the manpower to enforce or regulate the slot machines. Opponents want the slot machines removed from the state, and proponents want them legalized. Ernest Raub, and enforcement manager for the commission says that there is no way they can really do either. Raub says, "There's no way in the world the state is going to hire enough people to supervise those sites." He also said that cracking down on those that are already existing is hard because there isn’t a main system for reporting illegal gambling activity – or to track those reports that do come in – like the 500 or so they have received in the past five years alone. The problem is that most people don’t know an illegal slot machine when they see one – they don’t know the difference between coin and ticket slot machines, and which are ripping them off. There are a group of agencies across the state that are working on the problem, they are trying to train themselves and others on how to recognize an illegal slot machine when they see one. They are hoping that this will help some with the ever growing number of illegal slot machines.
