No More Internet Café GamblingThe Sweepstakes Internet Café was ordered to cease and desist all business practiced in Phoenix City today. A hearing before Russell County Circuit Court Judge Albert Johnson left the business with no way of operating, and ordered them to stop operating the business. The café voluntarily closed its doors for the time being, but has not given up hope. Raymond Jackson, Jr., attorney for the Sweepstakes Internet Café said, “We're not happy about it, but we did come to an agreement with the state to shut down." The agreement states that the café cannot operate in Russell County and must remove all of their slot machines within seven days. Attorney Buster Landreau said that it looked to him as if the slot machines had already been removed from the business. "They were running video slot machines," he said. "They were doing it under the guise of a sweepstakes." The company has not given up hope however, as the Alabama Supreme Court is currently ruling on a similar case and if they rule favorably – the internet café will be returning to Russell County. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
