Korean Gambling Probe Goes On

The former advisor for the National Assembly’s Culture and Tourism Committee was served with an overseas travel ban. The official, Kim Moon-hee, was placed under the ban at the beginning of last month’s investigation into corruption and slot machine irregularities.

Korea has been in the news a lot lately with the video slot machine game “Sea Story.” There has been much talk and speculation that high ranking officers of the Korean government used their power to push through the video slot machines in order to gain more money and power for themselves. The scandal goes all the way up to the President’s nephew.

Kim is under suspicion that he gave misleading advice to lawmakers so that he could support the game industry instead of the law. Last year, lawmakers sent in a bill trying to eliminate the vouchers that were used for game prizes at gaming arcades. Kim told them they needed to monitor the slot machine business more closely before submitting the bill, and then the bill was thrown away later.
