Maddern Home is RaidedDonna Maddern owns a company called Valley Vegas Nites, which rents slot machine and other equipment to groups that want to hold fund raisers that are casino-styled. She runs the buisiness with her son Benjamin David Maddern, 23, and her husband Benjamin Peter Maddern, 64, and all three of them are facing charges for the possession of slot machines. If convicted the group could be looking at fines up to $1,000 and six months in jail for possessing these slot machines, and the fines and jail time are per count. The group is currently looking at a 124 count complaint by the Stanislaus County district attorney’s office. State investigators raided her home and seized 62 slot machines from a storage area. The state Donna Maddern, owner of a Riverbank company that rents equipment to groups that hold casino-style fund-raisers, said Monday she received no warnings before state investigators raided her home this spring. The Maddens are upset because the state said that they had issued warnings to the group, which they dispute. Maddern said a state regulator came to see her last fall and told her she needed a license to manufacture and distribute slot machines. Maddern did not apply for the license as she didn’t think the license applied to them. As not a manufacturer or distributor of the slot machines, she didn’t fit into the category.
