Meadows’ Slots Could be in by FebruaryThe Gaming Board of PA is meeting next week to discuss several changes to the law that allows slot machines to come into the state. More importantly, they are issuing conditional licenses to several racetracks – with the Meadows being one of them. Once their license is approved, they could have slot machines up and running by February. The Meadows will open a temporary casino which will have 1,500 slot machines, plus a buffet and an entertainment space. The temporary casino will look as though it is a permanent structure, but they will be finishing work on the more permanent one in 2008. The permanent casino will cost $450 million to build, and will be 250,000 square feet when done. They expect attendance to grow to 4,200 people a day by 2010 – a very large increase from the current 355 a day they see now. The track will be behind the rows of slot machines, and there will be a theatre, a conference center, wine bar, and a steak house. Their goal is to entice people in with the idea of playing the slot machines, and get them hooked on the entertainment of racing while they are there. Business has been faltering since West Virginia opened slot casinos, and has been steadily declining. They believe that by bringing in the slot machines, the Meadows has a real chance at surviving. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
