PA Readying for Slot Machine LicensesThe Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is finally getting ready to issue licenses for the slot machines that have been patiently waiting to come in. They are issuing casino licenses to the state’s six horse racetracks, and many say it really cannot come soon enough. It has taken years to get to this point, and once the licenses are issues, gamblers will still have to wait for the businesses to be ready to bring in the slot machines. It seems that with all the stalling and waiting, none of the tracks are ready to open slot machine parlors. Some it will take about a year to get up and running, others will be ready nearing the end of the year. Pocono Downs is planning on having its slot machines up and running by Christmas – but Penn National will probably be about a year behind them, opening Christmas of 2007. Philadelphia Park is planning on being open early next year, but most of them will not have their slot machines up and running for many months. For most of them there is major construction that has to take place, and they aren’t comfortable starting that construction until they get the actual slot machine license. It is a far cry from the initial reaction to slot machines coming into town – many thought it would be days or months before they saw the slot machines up and running. It turned out to be years. slot machine, slot machine, slot machine, slot machine Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
