Senate Republicans Ask for DelayGambling regulators are planning on awarding slots licenses in late September, while Republicans are asking them to hold off. Several Republican State Senators asked the Pennsylvania Gaming Board not to issue any licensing for the slots parlors, claiming that they needed time to revise the gambling laws that had been passed two years ago. The agency reportedly said that they were continuing as usual, and Democrats are claiming that the republicans are just asking for the delay because it is an election year and they think it will help them keep their seats. There are many aspects of the gambling laws as they were passed, that have many in the government concerned about how they will play out once the actual licenses are given out. They want the rules to be clearer so as to head off any troubles before they start. There is some concern as to how the slot machine middlemen will continue to function in the state. There is also concern about lawmakers having the right to own as much as one percent of any gambling company. They want the money laid out better so that everyone knows where the slot machine revenue will be going, and they want the State Attorney General to have greater enforcement power over the slot machine and gaming industry.
