Slots Abound in California

With the signing of the new slot machine compacts in California, let’s take a look at what is really coming into the state:

State Senate and the Assembly have given approval for the Quechan Tribe to have 1,100 slot machines – up from 349

Morongo Band of Mission Indians – up 5,500 slot machines

Pechanga Band of Luiseno Mission Indians – up 5,500 slot machines

San Manuel Band of Mission Indians – up 5,500 slot machines

Sycuan Band Pact will bring in $20 million annually to operate the machines, and 15% of the earnings of those new slot machines

Yurok Tribe is allowed to bring in 99 slot machines

Aqua Caliente Tribe was actually just voted down in the Assembly, but are pushing for another vote – they want to bring in 3,000 slot machines and a third casino

The slot machines will be bringing in somewhere in the neighborhood of $13 billion over the span of the three largest compacts alone. "This compact truly fulfills the voters' intent when they allowed gaming on Indian lands," Schwarzenegger said. "These machines will help the state's largest tribe provide badly needed improvements to their reservation, like running water, electricity and health care."
