Slot Machine Thieves Let Off the Hook

Several months ago, a slot machine malfunctioned at the Caesars Indiana casino. More than $487,000 was taken from the slot machine by players – until one finally stepped forward and pointed out the faulty machine to casino executives.

Casino execs shut down the slot machine, and were able to track the winnings through the club cards that were used to play the machine. Some of those that were contacted readily turned over their winnings, but others did not.

The casino decided to seek legal action against those players that would not pay the casino back for the errors, but it seems to no avail. The county prosecutor’s office has decided not to press charges against anyone that took money from the slot machine.

John Colin, Harrison County Chief Deputy Prosecutor said that what they did was not illegal – immoral, yes, but not illegal. He says that they cannot file charges against them because it is not a criminal case. The casino was pushing them to file theft charges against the patrons who knowingly used the broken slot machine, but the county will not.
