Judge Will Rule on Slot MachinesA Franklin County judge said that he will be handing down a decision regarding the slot machines in the state of Ohio. Governor Ted Strickland and Attorney General Mark Dann have been trying to get the slot machines made illegal, and had issued an Executive Order that all slot machines were to cease and desist immediately. However, manufacturers and distributors of the slot machines, the Tic Tac Fruit, Nudge Master and Puzzlebug, went to a judge and asked for a temporary restraining order against the state so that they could continue to operate their slot machines. They say that their machines are Skill based and are therefore legal in the state. The judge agreed with them, and gave them a temporary reprieve from the law. However, now Judge Michael J. Holbrook will decide if they warrant a preliminary injunction, and therefore can continue to run until the case is settled; or if the restraining order is to be lifted and the slot machines shut down as illegal. There is currently a loophole in the gaming law that says that skill based amusement games, such as those for children’s arcades are legal, so many members of the industry are trying to make it seem as if they are operating the same types of machines, and not casino type slot machines.
