People Want Slot MachinesAbbotsford Mayor George Ferguson and the city’s eight councilors met with local residents Monday night to discuss the idea of adding slot machines to the city’s bingo hall. The hall would like to add 125 slot machines, and some residents are against it, but it seems like many more are for it. The meeting started at 8:30 pm and went on past midnight, with residents clamoring to have their voices heard. The meeting was held in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium and more than 400 people came to the meeting. Every seat was taken, and people were on the stairs and out into the hall, waiting to have their voices heard. Almost 50 people spoke in favor of wanting the slot machines added, and 22 spoke against. Those for the slot machines had blue and white “Yes” stickers on their persons while those against the slot machines held signs that said “No to CGC.” Almost the entire place was filled with those that were for the slot machines, as those opposed were definitely in the minority. Without
the addition of slot machines, the bingo hall will close down.
This is of great concern to the many charitable groups that
benefit from the bingo hall and support the addition of slot
machines to it. This would mean that more than $2.3 million in
financing would no longer be available to those in need. Back to September Index - Slot Machines Fan |
