Some people said that if they bring in slot machines, then Maryland will want to bring in table games. This is why many people in Maryland are against legalizing the slot machines as they didn’t want to see a large expansion of gambling in the state, but officials said that they were worrying needlessly about something that would not happen.

Well, it seems that they may have spoken too soon, as the Maryland Retailers Association is already pushing for table games and the slot machines have not even been made official yet. The idea that some are pushing for table games when the slot machines are still being discussed leaves many residents angry and confused.

Tom Saquella, the leader of the lobby, says that they think that table games will be a nice addition to the slot machines, and that if they are legalized as well the state will probably not be looking at an increase in the sales tax. The governor has said that by increasing the sales tax and legalizing slot machines that they stand a good chance of balancing the budget. However, Saquella says that if they don’t increase the sales tax and add table games to the slot machines that they are going to make residents much happier.

However, the idea that “if some gambling is good, more gambling is even better” does not necessarily fly with residents. They were on the fence about slot machines, but now looking down the barrel of full scale casinos. The problem is that gambling money comes from somewhere; it doesn’t just mean more money for the state. It comes from the smaller businesses that rely on that extra income, so they end up being penalized for all gambling that comes in.
