Navajo Nation Slot Machine DealGila River Gaming Enterprises, Inc. has gotten the right to add 411 slot machines to the 2,275 that they already own. The company already runs three casinos and now they are getting more slot machines through a deal that they have done with the Navajo Nation. Under the terms of the slot machine agreement, the Navajo Nation is leasing their rights to those tribal nations that are looking to expand their casinos. The company runs the Wild Horse Pass and the new Lone Butte Casino. They also run Vee Quiva located in southwest Phoenix. Under the 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, Congress says that the tribes and the states have to come to an agreement regarding slot machines and gambling in each state. If they do not have any casinos of their own, they can lease their rights to another tribe that does run casinos. Under the agreement, the tribe leases their slot machines to another tribe, and then they receive a percentage of the revenue from the machines that they have leased. The Fort McDowell Yavapai Apache Nation and the Tohono O’odham Nation are also leasing slot machines from the Navajo Nation.
