Slot Machines Bring in Money

Slot machines bring in money. Now this may seem simple enough, but how does this relate to the horse racing industry? Any casino worth its salt will know that if they bring in slot machines, they will have money. But many want to know, if slot machines are brought into a horse racing track, are they actually increasing the amount of people who were interested in horse racing or are they just bringing in money from the slot machines.

Rutgers University has done a study on whether or not the state of New Jersey should allow slot machines at their racetracks. The study found that when Delaware allowed slot machines to come into their tracks, their annual gross purses increased from $650,000 to more than $35 million today. In Pennsylvania, they found that the purses at Philadelphia Park had doubled from $120,000 to $240,000 after they brought in slot machines as well.

The Rutgers University study says that as the New Jersey horse racing industry was flagging, bringing in slot machines could greatly help them. They say that it can also assist the various horse farms around the state that may have to close if something is not done.

Needless to say, the casinos in the state are not happy about the findings. They say that they are more than willing to help out the horse racing industry, but to bring in slot machines into the mix would be destroying Atlantic City. They say that they have already suffered enough from all of the surrounding states bringing in slot machines, and to bring in such gambling at the tracks they would be doing much more harm than good.
