Gulfstream Doing Better
It
doesn't matter who you ask in the gambling industry, slot
machine revenues are down across the board. Las Vegas, Nevada; Atlantic City, New
Jersey; they are all feeling the pinch
of a poorer economy. Some areas and their slot machines have
been hit harder than others, and some casinos have shown a
profit. However, these seem to be in the minority these days.
Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino in Hollandale beach,
Florida
is one of those casinos that has been feeling the pinch of a
lower slot machine revenue.
Broward County has seen all three of their
racinos have lower slot machine revenues over the past year.
However Gulfstream seems to be turning it around. While the
counties to other tracks are down 16.3% are up 5.5%. Nationwide,
casinos are down about 10% on average.
The
Gulfstream has seen its share of troubles since they opened.
They have seen their parent company go bankrupt, they have seen
numerous small construction delays, and they have seen a 2007
employee theft ring. All of these problems have conspired to
make Gulfstream less than what it could be.
The
track feels as though they have "turned the corner." According
to experts the casino has really changed the way they're
handling their slot machine floor, and have offered a variety of
games to entice their players. One of their more popular games
is Diamond Lotto which has turned out to be a very popular slot
machine version of the lottery that Hispanic gamblers tend to
flock to.
