First Slots License Awarded

In Maryland the first license for slot machine gambling has finally been awarded. Ocean Downs racetrack is the lucky recipient of the very first slot machine license. Having received it, and being the first to get one, the casino is excited and hopeful about their future. They think that they may be able to get up to 800 slot machines up and running as early as next Memorial Day.

They are also excited because they know that as in the case of the Pennsylvania, those slot machine casinos they got their doors open first made it the most amount of money. The government is excited because they know that this means that very shortly there'll be large amounts of slot machine revenue coming through their doors.

This is a huge milestone for Maryland -- supporters have been trying to get slot machines legalized for years in the state, and only succeeded this past Election Day and getting them approved. State officials say that by awarding the first slot machine license they are showing their detractors that they are moving forward and their slot machines are going to be a force within the state.

There are many hoops that the tracks still has to jump through before they can actually bring in the slot machines, such as getting a building permit and other local approvals, but the state doesn't think that this will hold them up for long. The commission says that they are excited by having the slot machines legalized and having the first site ready to be opened shortly.
