A gambling machine that spins reels. Sometimes the reels are actual physical reels, and sometimes they are virtual reels that consist of nothing more than images moving on a screen. The reels have symbols on them. The combinations of symbols that land on the payline determine the amount won or lost.

Sometimes the slot machine accepts coins, sometimes bills. Eventually slot machines will take "smart cards" of some kind. Online slot machines just accept money from your casino wagering account.

Some slot machines use a lever to activate the spin, and sometimes they just have a button called "spin". Online slots spin based on the click of a mouse.
